No person has the right to rain on your dreams

'No person has the right to rain on your dreams'

I wanted a title that was related to rain without just being 'rain is horrible'. It rained pretty bad while we were out taking photos yesterday. It also meant the light to take them with was pretty much non-existent.

So I've tried to meet Laura before and we didn't have much luck. This time we managed it! We met in Victoria Station in Manchester City Center.

We had A LOT of rain. Every time we went inside to get out of the rain, the sun would come out. It got a little bit annoying. We kept going, the best we could and I think we did OK.

We started by Urbis, the water fountains weren't on though which was a bit of a shame. Would have been nice. We then had quite a think about other locations and ended up round the back streets near Aflecks. Was a bit of a walk.

As I said to Laura, I need to go explore parts of Manchester I haven't been to before for new places to shoot. I could also do with getting a flash gun to be able to shoot better under cover and in the dark (eg, when it rains because winter is coming. It's not going to get any better weather wise)

I had to edit all of the photos and some were blurry on my computer but I think we got a selection of good photos. As usual I preferred the photos I took slightly later, once I had relaxed back into taking photos. Laura was a pleasure to work with. Just a shame the rain cut us a bit short.

I would like to do some winter/wrapped up and snow photos nearer to Christmas when I next work with a model. I don't know when I'll have the chance around work.

Fingers crossed :D

Take care

Blondie

Well it was either 'Blondie' or 'The rain almost ruined my day, again'. I don't know about you guys but I'm kind of sick of rain related titled so I went with the obvious. I was hoping we would avoid the rain but we got rained on a little once. The rain of course means the sky was rather dark so I had to shoot ISO400 and not the normal ISO200 or ISO100. The photos are a little grainier than normal.

The lack of light meant I was shooting free hand at very low setting so some of the photos were blurry and unusable. I had to get the tripod out at one point but I don't like using the tripod because I feel like I don't have complete control of the camera. Overall I think this turned out OK.

(This one above is my favourite photo of today )

This is the first time I've worked with this model (Whose name is the same as my last model!) She was really lovely and she actually taught me a lot. As a photographer I actually can get a lot more say in things than I thought. We talked for ages about which outfit she was going to wear and we tried different things. It was really fun and I loved it!

This is her bargain dress! She got it for less than £7. I for one was pretty impressed.

You may notice that I was shooting around the same area as the other photo shoot I did but this time I was trying to take the lead and be more inventive and I really like how some of the photos came out.

It then got really cold and windy and dark so we decided to call it a day.

I've spent a good long time trying to save as many images as possible. The problem of such a blonde model and editing is I have to be careful to not loose too much detail in the hair. I don't want to over do it. I think I managed to do okay. I hope she likes them when she sees them.

As I was saying today I hope to get in at least one or two more models before Christmas but my work hours are increase a lot soon for Christmas. I have my fingers crossed.

Avoiding The Rain

Most of my Blog titles seem to have rain in them or related to rain. The joys of living in Manchester I suppose.

So today. Today I was meeting a model I hadn't met before. The past two times I have tried to this, it hasn't worked so I was hoping third time lucky. Lucky indeed.
After re-arranging the time and me not being very clear about which Starbucks, we met. It is a very different experience to photograph with someone you don't know. There was only so much I could talk about without feeling that I was being intrusive. I wanted it be casual and comfortable. I think I did ok with that. We had a bit of a laugh and I know I enjoyed the experience.

Even if builders kept getting in the way. Some of the places were over-run with them and we didn't really want to shoot there. In the end though we went to 3 different locations. The first 2 were easy, ones I had planned (part of one being blocked off for building work though) The third one was after a lot of wondering around. Which doesn't make me look all that great. Everything comes down to problem solving.

The second location was the most successful I think. I got a handful of good photos. I had to do a bit of editing on the third locations photos lighting. A massive black cloud was hanging over us and meaning that even correct exposure photos were coming out quite dark.

Luckily though we avoided the rain. Just. I though we would get caught in a downpour but I left Manchester before there was one. I had some splats hit me on the way home from the train station but that was it. Which is kinda ashamed because I had a new umbrella. A Narnia umbrella that I got with my HMV pure points.
